EXECUTION DATES SET FOR CLIFTON WHITE AND RONALD FRYE
RALEIGH -- Correction Secretary Theodis Beck has set execution dates for death row inmates Clifton A. White (#0433349) on Aug. 24 and Ronald W. Frye (#0137605) on Aug 31. Both executions are set for 2 a.m. at Central Prison.
White, 43, was convicted in Mecklenburg County Superior Court on February 4, 1994 and sentenced to death for the murder of Kimberly Ewing. He was also sentenced to 120 years in prison for robbery with a dangerous weapon, burglary and kidnapping and ten years for auto larceny.
Frye, 42, was convicted in Catawba County Superior Court on November 15, 1993 and sentenced to death for the murder of Ralph Childress. He has no additional convictions.
Media tours at Central Prison are scheduled the Monday prior to each execution. For media covering the White execution, the tour will be Aug. 20. For the Frye execution, the tour will be Aug 27. These are the only times news media will be allowed to photograph the execution chamber and death watch area. Newspaper, television and radio reporters and photographers should be at Central Prison’s visitor center promptly at 10 a.m. Warden R.C. Lee will lead the tour and explain execution procedures. The session will last approximately one hour.
Reporters who plan to attend either of the media tours should call the Department of Correction Public Information Office at 919-716-3700.
