Execution Dates Set For Two Death Row Inmates

RALEIGH - Correction Secretary Theodis Beck has set the execution dates for two Death Row inmates. The execution of Ernest Paul McCarver has been set for March 2, tentatively scheduled for 2 a.m. The execution of Willie Ervin Fisher has been set for March 9, also tentatively scheduled for 2 a.m.

McCarver, 40, was convicted Sept. 9, 1992 in Cabarrus County Superior Court. He received the death sentence for the Jan. 2, 1987 murder of 71-year old Woodrow Hartley. In addition, McCarver was convicted of robbery with a dangerous weapon

Fisher, 38, was convicted Feb. 4, 1993 in Forsyth County Superior Court. He received the death sentence for the April 2, 1992 murder of 29-year old Angela Vernetta Johnson. In addition, Fisher was convicted of assault with a deadly weapon and burglary.

A media tour at Central Prison is scheduled prior to each execution. The media tour for the McCarver execution is set for Feb. 26 at 10 a.m. The media tour for the Fisher execution is set for March 5 at 10 a.m. Newspaper, television and radio reporters and photographers should be at Central Prison’s visitor center promptly at 10 a.m. Warden R.C. Lee will explain execution procedures. The session will last approximately one hour. This will be the only time the news media will be allowed to photograph the execution chamber and death watch area before the execution.
