Easley appoints Buck to Parole Commission

Elbert BuckRALEIGH, August 20, 2001 – Gov. Mike Easley reappointed Elbert Tyree Buck Jr. of Winterville to the North Carolina Parole Commission.

Buck retired this year at the rank of colonel form the North Carolina National Guard with 34 years of service. He commanded the 30th Corps Support Group in Durham and is a veteran of the Persian Gulf War and the Desert Storm/Desert Shield. Buck has worked with the Division of Adult Probation and Parole in Greenville since 1978; he was a parole officer from 1978-1979, a unit supervisor from1979-1985 and parole services manager from 1985-1993. Buck received his bachelor’s degree from East Carolina University (ECU) in 1967 and his master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling from ECU in 1976.

The North Carolina Parole Commission helps makes rules and decisions regarding parole and inmate population in the state. They advise the Governor in clemency matters and make all parole decisions and they are required by law to control the number of prisoners in the prison system. The board has three members, all appointed by the Governor. Each member serves a four-year term.
